The Reading Ambassadors - Just 6 Minutes

Meet Your Reading Ambassadors

“I have been at Oakham School since the 3rd form, and as a music scholar, I love playing the piano and saxophone, as well as participating in the choir. In addition to my musical pursuits, I’m passionate about playing hockey on the 2nd XI team and running cross country for pleasure. I’m currently studying A-Levels in English Literature, Economics, and Politics, and I’ve found that my love for reading greatly enhances my understanding of these subjects. Reading has always been an essential part of my life since I was very young; I have always loved classics, particularly gothic literature, with some of my favourite novels including ‘Great Expectations’ by Charles Dickens, ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ by Gaston Leroux, and ‘Dracula’ by Bram Stoker.”

"At my core I’m an academic kid, somebody who enjoys subjects like History, Politics and Classics. I have a very keen interest in ancient history and its literature.  I try my best to align my free time with what I want to do and in this simple regard, this is where I read. My time to read varies from day to day, but I read at least once a day even if it’s just for a few minutes. Reading used to be a task imposed by teachers and parents and so I lost the joy of reading. But the joy has been re-kindled as I’ve viewed reading in a better light. Reading helps me to think and explore new ideas. I am, amongst other things a science fiction reader and interested in the world- building it offers."

"I have been at Oakham School since Lower 1, and as a member of both symphony and chamber orchestra, I have a strong passion for playing the bassoon, cello, piano, and double bass. Outside of my music, I love sailing and racing against schools from all over the country. I am studying A-Levels in Physics, Chemistry and Maths, but I am also drawn to history, and this is where my reading takes me. Some of my recent favourites are ‘The life fantastic’ by Noa Menhaim and ‘Assyria’ by Eckart Frahm."
